A concise reference to how PrintPort3D works: pricing, stores, orders, files, and AI design. Each answer links to the full documentation for more detail.
Getting started and pricing
This section covers what it costs to begin, whether you need an existing storefront, and how money moves through the platform.
Nothing. Signing up, connecting a store, uploading designs, and building products are all free. PrintPort only charges you the make cost of an order — the material and labor to print it, with a $2.00 minimum per order — and only after that order is produced. Saving a card runs no charge and no $0 authorization.
The only other cost is optional: Studio credits, if you use the AI design tools. There is nothing to pay upfront to be ready to sell.
To sell through a marketplace, yes. You sell on your own Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, or other storefront, and PrintPort makes and ships each order that comes in. PrintPort is the maker behind your store, not a storefront of its own.
If you do not have a store, you can still order parts: upload your files, choose a material, color and quantity — one part or up to 500 — and pay in full at checkout. It is how sellers get samples and how anyone gets parts made, from Order parts in your Orders area.
There is no payout. Your customer pays you directly through your own store, and that money never touches PrintPort. PrintPort charges your saved card the make cost to produce the order, and you keep the difference. There is no wallet, escrow, or balance that PrintPort pays out to you.
Shipping is separate from the card charge. On a marketplace order, the label is bought on your own connected Shippo account — Shippo bills you for it there, separate from the card charge. On a custom order, the label was already prepaid by the buyer. Your net profit is approximately what your customer paid − the make cost − the shipping label. See How you get paid for the complete model.
How selling works
Once your account is set up, orders flow in automatically. This section explains the fulfillment process and the one step sellers most often miss.
A sale on your store travels through Shippo into PrintPort. PrintPort slices the design, prints and packs it at its warehouse in Orange, CA, buys a shipping label, and ships it to your customer. You never operate a printer. You only step in when an order needs your attention.
Every storefront connects through Shippo; there are no direct marketplace integrations. See How fulfillment works for the full process.
Eleven, all through Shippo: Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, TikTok Shop, eBay, Walmart, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Magento 2, and BigCommerce. You add and remove stores in the Shippo dashboard. PrintPort's Settings page shows your connected storefronts read-only.
Publishing only changes your product between Draft and Live inside PrintPort. It does not create or push a listing to your store. PrintPort cannot post to Shopify or Etsy on your behalf.
You create the store listing yourself and add the exact PrintPort SKU to it. The SKU is the only thing that ties an incoming order back to your product. For the full walkthrough, see Publish to your store.
SKU characters must match exactly
dragon-01, DRAGON-01, and Dragon-01 all match a product whose SKU is DRAGON-01. The characters themselves must still match. A different character (an underscore where you used a hyphen, an extra space in the middle, or a typo) is a different SKU, and the order lands as No product match. See The SKU link.Orders, approval, and shipping
This section covers what to expect once orders arrive: why some wait for your approval, how fast orders move, and what happens when a print is defective.
Automatic fulfillment is off by default, so PrintPort makes each order only after you approve it. Until then the order waits as Held for approval and your card is not charged. When you select Approve, production starts and the card is charged at label purchase.
To run hands-off, turn on automatic fulfillment and orders proceed without a stop. Automatic vs manual explains the trade-off.
PrintPort's internal target is to ship within 3 business days (72 hours) of an order landing, and within 48 hours for TikTok Shop orders. An order that crosses that window is flagged Late on your Orders page. In practice, most orders ship sooner. The 3 business days is the commitment; anything faster is not guaranteed.
PrintPort auto-selects the cheapest USPS service from its Orange, CA warehouse, so delivery typically adds about 4–7 days (a USPS estimate). Tracking is a number plus a carrier link; there is no minute-by-minute scan feed. See Tracking & delivery for more.
Yes. From the order, select Request refund to ask for a refund or a replacement. This is a review-based request that an admin approves; it is not instant, and the amount and type are not set by you. For a genuine print defect, PrintPort will remake or refund it, reviewed case by case.
Delivery, address, and quality problems are not self-serve. Open the order and choose Get help with this to route it to Support, or email support@printport3d.com. See Refunds & replacements.
Designs, files, and AI
This section covers what you can upload and how PrintPort can design a product for you.
PrintPort accepts STL, OBJ, 3MF, and STEP files up to 500 MB. In practice, only STL and 3MF run reliably end to end. OBJ and STEP usually error during analysis, so convert them to STL or 3MF first.
Size limits are enforced: any single axis over 255.0 mm is rejected, the smallest side must be at least 0.5 mm, and volume must be at least 0.001 cm³. PrintPort does not require a watertight mesh and never checks wall thickness; only inverted normals are auto-repaired. See File requirements for details.
Yes. That is Studio. You can describe a design in chat and get real parametric CAD, generate a 3D mesh from an idea or a photo, or start from a template.
Studio actions cost credits, which are real money on your platform balance. Authoring a design is $0.50, and multi-angle renders are free. AI-authored designs ship with no sliders: they are one fixed configuration. Only templates keep adjustable dials. See Studio credits for every price.
