Add your payment card
Save the card PrintPort charges to produce each order, and understand what is charged and when.
4 min read
This is the last of the setup steps. You save one card in Settings → Billing, and PrintPort charges it to produce each order, covering the material and labor to print it. Saving a card does not charge you anything.
What the card is for
PrintPort keeps your card on file. When an order is produced, PrintPort charges that card the make cost and nothing more. Your customer pays you through your own store. PrintPort never pays you, and there is no wallet, escrow, or payout to set up. You keep the difference between what the customer paid and what it cost to make and ship the order.
The charge happens once per order, during fulfillment, at the moment the shipping label is purchased. It is never charged when an order is placed, and never on a schedule. By default, orders wait for you to approve each one, so nothing is charged until you approve it. You can switch to automatic fulfillment later. See Automatic vs manual.
The table below shows what is included in the charge and what is not.
Store-order charges cover make cost only. Shipping is billed separately.
| Line item | Included in the charge? |
|---|---|
| Material — the real price per gram × the printed weight | Yes |
| Labor — $3 per print-hour (pro-rated under 1h) | Yes |
| Hardware — the part price for magnets, inserts, or MagSafe (no labor added) | Yes |
| Assembly — $1.00 per part, only on products you asked us to assemble | Yes |
| Order minimum — $2.00 per order, applied only when the make cost comes to less | Yes |
| The shipping label | No — this bills to your own Shippo account |

Before you start: verify your email
You can save a card only after your email is verified. This is a required step. Until your email is verified, the Add card button is disabled and PrintPort cannot create your billing profile.
- Signed up with Google? Your email is already verified. No action is needed.
- Signed up with email and password? Click the link in the verification email we sent you.
If your email is not yet verified, complete that first. See Create your account. Every other step in setup can be skipped and completed later, but email verification cannot.
Adding your card
Open Settings → Billing and select Add card — the go-live checklist on a new account’s dashboard links you straight there. The form is short and secure.
- 1
Enter the name on the card
Type the cardholder's full name. - 2
Select the card's country
Choose the country your card was issued in. The default is the United States. There are 40 countries to choose from. - 3
Enter your card details
Enter the card number, expiry, and CVC in the secure field. No ZIP or postal code is required; the form does not collect one. - 4
Save
The button becomes active once you have entered a name and the secure form has loaded. The card appears in your Billing panel as soon as it saves.
Saving does not charge you
The first card you add becomes your primary card, the one PrintPort tries first for every order. Cards you add later act as automatic fallbacks: if the primary card fails, PrintPort tries the others until one succeeds. You can change your primary card at any time. See Manage payment cards.
How your card is protected
Your card number never reaches PrintPort's servers. The secure field sends it directly to Stripe, our payment processor, and Stripe returns a token that stands in for the card. PrintPort stores only the details that are safe to display.
- What we storeon file
- The card brand, its last four digits, and the expiry month and year.
- What we never see
- The full card number or CVC. These are held only by Stripe.
- No Stripe login
- You are a PrintPort customer, not a Stripe account holder. There is no Stripe dashboard and no separate invoice or PDF. Your charges appear on your Finance page.
Waiting on this step
The card is deliberately the one checklist step that does not gate selling. You can connect Shippo, link your store, list products, and take sales with no card on file — the checklist marks the card as needed before orders are made, not before you can sell.
No card means no production
Whenever you are ready, add the card in Settings → Billing. See Manage payment cards.
