Material catalog

The materials and finishes PrintPort can print end-to-end today, what each is suited for, and what is not yet supported.

5 min read

Every product is printed in a real filament. This page is the reference list of the materials our machines print end-to-end, what each is suited for, and how a material choice becomes a cost. The exact colors and prices in the app are read from live inventory, so treat this as the printable set rather than a fixed menu.

Available materials

These ten materials are in stock and printing end-to-end on our machines today, across 65 colours. Each is a real filament family with its own look, feel, and price. The “best for” column is a starting point rather than a rule; most everyday products print well in PLA.

In stock and printing end-to-end on 23 September 2026. TPU 90A prints on our flexible-filament profile; PETG-CF slices on the PETG profile. PETG Basic, PET-CF and ASA are in the catalogue but out of stock, so they do not appear in the picker.

The material list is read from live stock

The material chips and color swatches in the product maker are read from our inventory when you open it; they are not hardcoded. When we stock a new filament or retire one, your options change accordingly. For how to pick a material and color while building a product, see Materials & colors.

Finishes and PLA variants

There is no separate finish control. Silk, Matte, and Glow are their own entries in the picker, and each is a variant of PLA. You select a finish by selecting the material. When a color’s finish differs from plain PLA, the label carries it, so swatches appear as Silk Gold or Matte Black rather than simply “Gold.”

PLA Glow’s profile resolves to standard PLA Basic timing; the glow comes from the filament itself, not a different print recipe. Only plain PLA Basic prices instantly. Silk, Matte, and Glow each start a material-accurate re-slice in the background and briefly show the estimate badge until the price firms up, Glow included.

Colors and pricing

The material families above are stable, but the individual colors under each are not. Every color swatch is one specific filament we hold in stock, and each carries its own color, price per gram, and density. Two colors of the same material can cost slightly different amounts to make.

  • The materials you can pick are whichever families are currently in stock.
  • The colors under a material are whichever specific filaments we hold right now.
  • The price of a print is driven by that exact filament’s real per-gram cost.

A color you used last month may not be available this month, and new colors appear as we add them. There are no fixed color or price tables to memorize; the picker always shows the current inventory.

Unsupported materials

Some materials are a different process, not a different spool, and are not in our pipeline at all:

  • Resin (SLA/DLP)
  • Powder-bed nylon (SLS/MJF)
  • Metal, whether printed, cast or machined

A filament we do not stock is a different matter. Anything that prints on an FDM machine can be bought against a first order at no surcharge and stays on the rack afterwards, which is the promise the home page makes. Ask support before you build the product, so the spool is on the shelf when the order lands.

A filament with no profile prices as an estimate

PETG-CF is stocked and slices on the PETG profile. PET-CF and ASA are in the catalog but out of stock, and neither has its own entry in Slicer-Worker/materials.py — they would resolve to the PLA baseline, so the print time would be an estimate rather than a measurement. The same is true of any newly sourced filament. Give it a profile before it goes on the shelf, or the first quote in it will be wrong.

Materials shown elsewhere are not selectable

Some marketing surfaces, such as the public instant-quote calculator on our landing page, list a few extra materials for illustration. Those cannot be selected for a product. If one were labeled into a print, it would fall back to the PLA recipe and price and time the print inaccurately, so we do not offer them.

How material affects cost

Your material choice flows directly into the make cost, the amount PrintPort charges your card to produce one unit. It is computed from the slice of your file, not from a lookup table.

Weightfrom your file
The sliced volume of the print times the filament’s density gives its weight in grams. Density defaults to 1.24 (PLA) when a filament does not specify its own, so denser materials weigh more for the same shape.
Material costthe driver
That weight times the chosen filament’s real, live price per gram. There is no flat per-material rate; each color carries its own price, and we will not price a product if that filament has no real per-gram cost on file.
Laborper print-hour
A time charge on the print: $3 per print-hour, pro-rated under an hour. A material that requires extra handling, such as flexible TPU, can carry a small handling multiplier on top.

PLA Basic is the upload baseline, so it prices the moment you pick it. Choosing any other material — PLA Matte, Silk, Silk+, Glow or Wood, PETG, PETG-CF, ABS, or TPU — re-slices in the background on that material’s real profile, because the print time can differ. Until it lands, the maker shows the PLA-baseline time flagged estimate, then re-prices automatically. For the full breakdown, see Costs & pricing.
