Studio credits

What each Studio action costs, the $10 welcome credit, and how refunds work.

4 min read

Studio runs on credits. A credit is real money on your PrintPort balance, the same balance the Finance page bills against. This page lists the cost of each AI action, the welcome credit, and when a charge is refunded.

Credits and your balance

There is no separate Studio wallet or play-money token. Every AI action — authoring a design in chat, generating a 3D mesh, or shooting product photos — debits your PrintPort credit balance before it runs. This is the same ledger your card charges and refunds land in.

Multi-angle renders are always free. Rendering a design from every angle never costs a credit, and repeat renders are served from cache. Only authoring, 3D generation, and AI photos spend credits.

Pricing

Every price is shown in the workbench before you click, so you always see the cost first. The current rates are:

The 5-shot pack is the sum of its shots ($0.50 + 4 × $0.25 = $1.50).

Welcome credit

Accounts created on or after July 7, 2026 receive a one-time $10 credit the first time they open Studio. A banner confirms the credit landed and shows what it covers, which is several full photo packs.

  • One-time. The credit is granted once per account and does not renew.
  • Date-gated. Accounts created before July 7, 2026 do not receive it.
  • Spends like any other credit. Same balance, same rates as the table above.

How chat messages are charged

“Free to iterate” has one exception

The Design it card reads “Free to iterate,” but that applies only to adjusting the sliders on an untouched template, which re-renders for free. Sending a chat message to design or change a design costs $0.50 ($1.50 for an assembly ask). Every message is a fresh paid run, not a free edit.

Because a follow-up message is a new paid design, a small tweak such as “make it 10 mm taller” costs the same as the first ask. It also returns a fully re-verified design, which is why AI-authored designs have no sliders.

You cannot stack two paid runs on one design. If you send a new message while a design is still being authored, the older run is aborted and refunded, and only the new one is charged.

Refunds

Credits are debited up front, but a failed action returns them automatically. You never pay for something Studio did not deliver.

Design authoringauto-refund
Refunded whenever no design is delivered: a refused request (weapons or trademarks), an engine error, an empty result, or a timeout. The exception is a “keep”, which is when the engine reviews your design and determines it already meets the ask. That is a verified answer, so it remains charged.
3D generationauto-refund
Refunded on failure or timeout. The tile reads “Generation failed — your credits were refunded.”
AI photosauto-refund
A failed photo shows failed · refunded and refunds itself. If a 5-shot pack runs low on credits partway through, it stops cleanly and keeps every photo already made.

If you’re short on credits

Studio checks your balance before it starts, so a low balance never leaves a half-charged action. You will see a message with the exact cost and your current balance — for example, “Not enough credits — this photo costs $0.50, your balance is $0.20” — and nothing is attempted.

Where credits are stored

Studio credits sit on your PrintPort credit balance, the same balance the Finance page shows. PrintPort credit is added by support, so to top up or ask about your balance, contact support. Credit is never a payout of your sales; it is a balance you spend, on Studio and elsewhere.
